  • Jefferson City, MO - It's News to You!

Located in the heart of Missouri, Jefferson City is rich with historical traditions, beautiful landscapes, fine cuisine and attractive shopping centers just waiting to be discovered. Spend some time in the magnificent state Capitol, which was named the most beautiful state capitol building in America, and stroll through the quaint downtown with its specialty shops and restaurants. Explore the wineries, parks and a number of museums that make Jefferson City a great experience. One of the most unique attractions in Jefferson City is the Missouri State Penitentiary Tour.  Now closed, the Missouri State Penitentiary first opened its doors in March 1836, the same month as the fall of the Alamo in Texas, and was home to many famous criminals and inmates, including Pretty Boy Floyd, James Earl Ray and heavyweight boxing champ Sonny Liston.  While on the tour, you can visit the gas chamber, see several housing units, buried cells and the upper yard. Come feel the history!
